However, with digital effects, we can rig real actors for stunts and later remove the safety wires in post-production.

Brevig's experience speaks volumes.
During the production of "Pearl Harbor," he utilized computer technology not only for explosions that mimicked bomb and torpedo strikes but also to manage the tumbling of a 150-foot replica of the U.S.S. Oklahoma.
Approximately 60% of that film incorporated practical effects.


Corbould shares a similar sentiment regarding "Black Hawk Down," where 90% of the effects relied on tangible methods.
Computers facilitated the ignition of gunfire and rocket blasts and helped manage wind effects.
Around 70% of the first helicopter crash was executed live on set, using a model Black Hawk helicopter suspended by a wire, while the second crash was entirely computer-generated.


"Many directors today lean towards digital effects for their speed," Corbould observes.
"I encourage them to embrace physical effects whenever possible.
