Wiley Launches Interoperable AI Gateway to Propel Scientific Discovery
Wiley has introduced its Wiley AI Gateway, a pioneering, interoperable research intelligence platform designed to integrate trusted scholarly content into leading AI systems via a single endpoint. This enables researchers to access peer-reviewed material seamlessly, improving the fidelity and reliability of AI-driven scientific inquiry.
Unlike closed or proprietary AI systems that silo data or restrict access, the Wiley AI Gateway is built for openness. It supports integration with major AI tools and platforms such as Anthropic’s Claude, AWS Marketplace, Mistral AI’s Le Chat, and Perplexity allowing AI models to cite, synthesize, and engage with content while preserving research integrity.
Key Features & Architecture
Content Transformation & Citation Accuracy
The Gateway employs advanced content transformation to convert scholarly works into AI-friendly formats, while retaining citation, methodology, and peer-review context. It embeds the Model Context Protocol (MCP) to ensure AI models understand, cite, and interpret the original content correctly.
Publisher Ecosystem & Interoperability
Wiley’s Gateway is open to publishers who wish to connect their content to major AI platforms while retaining control over their IP and editorial independence. Participating publishers include Sage and the American Society for Microbiology (ASM), working through Wiley’s Atypon platform.
Strategic Collaborations
-
The European Space Agency’s Φ-Lab is integrating the Gateway into its EVE (EARTH Virtual Expert) system, enriching its AI agents with up-to-date scientific literature.
-
Via AWS Marketplace, the Gateway enables a publisher-driven AI agent for literature search empowering users to blend AI analytical power with rigorous domain content.
Why This Matters for Research & AI
-
Grounding AI in vetted scholarship
As AI usage by researchers rose from 57% to 84% in a single year, Wiley saw the need for AI to be anchored in validated sources to reduce hallucinations and bias. -
Unified scientific workflows
Rather than hopping between databases and tools, researchers can embed discovery, analysis, and citation into AI-powered processes. -
Democratizing research access
Institutions and R&D teams gain more seamless access to cross-publisher content, accelerating innovation and reducing friction in discovery. -
Safeguarding content integrity
With citation preservation and peer-review context, Wiley positions the Gateway as a trustworthy bridge between AI and scientific publishing.
