First Time Rafting? Bhotekoshi Will Scare You, Excite You, and Then Win Your Heart
Bhotekoshi rafting is thrilling, safe, and perfect for beginners. My first trip was scary at first, but the rapids turned into pure fun and laughter.

I had always been nervous about white-water rafting. The thought of bouncing around in a raft made my stomach flip. But when I tried Bhotekoshi rafting, I learned that fear can turn into the best kind of fun. If you can survive family group chats, you can survive a Grade III rapid.

Why I Chose Bhotekoshi

Bhotekoshi River is only about 3 hours from Kathmandu (Nepal Tourism Board, 2024), which makes it one of the easiest adventure trips near the capital. Known as one of the steepest rivers in Nepal, it offers Grade III–IV rapids. That sounded scary to me at first, but I soon realized it was more like a natural rollercoaster than a danger zone.

Rafting is also getting more popular every year. According to the Ministry of Tourism (2023), more than 30,000 people try rafting in Nepal annually, and Bhotekoshi is one of the top picks because of its quick access and high thrill.

My First Experience

When I sat on the raft, I held the paddle like it was my last hope. My guide smiled and said, “Just listen to my commands, and you’ll be fine.” The first rapid hit us, and my scream probably echoed off the cliffs. But after a few splashes, the fear melted away.

The water was cold, the waves were wild, and I laughed harder than I had in months. Every rapid felt like a surprise party thrown by the river. The guide kept us safe, and the life jacket made me feel secure. I realized it wasn’t about fighting the river, it was about going with it.

What Makes Bhotekoshi Special

  • Distance from Kathmandu: About 95 km

  • Rapid grades: III–IV (thrilling but safe for first-timers with guides)

  • Best season: September–November and March–May

  • Trip time: Half-day to full-day rafting available

  • Cost: Around $50–$80 per person

The mix of thrill and safety makes it a perfect spot for beginners like me who want a taste of real adventure.

Why You Should Try It

Bhotekoshi rafting gave me more than a wild ride. It showed me that being scared doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy something. The rapids tested me, the river splashed me, and by the end, I wanted to do it all over again.

If you’re nervous about trying rafting, don’t be. With the right guide and gear, you’ll be safe and you’ll have one of the most exciting days of your life. The Bhotekoshi rafting trip will scare you, excite you, and then win your heart, just like it did mine.
