Experiences with Path of Exile 2
My experiences with Path of Exile 2 throughout its development have been nothing short of exciting, and each play session leaves me more impressed.
It all started at Gamescom 2023, where I participated in a demo led by Jonathan Rogers from Grinding Gear. I explored the warrior and druid classes and had a chance to try the monk, which was a humbling experience as I struggled to find my footing.
Fast forward to early 2024, I dove into the ranger class. The thrilling gameplay had me launching lightning arrows and unleashing massive storms of destruction, which was an absolute blast.
Most recently, I revisited the monk and also got to experience the warrior, sorceress, and witch for the first time. Each class brought its own unique flair and powerful abilities, making the gameplay feel diverse and engaging.
The monk, in particular, transforms into a formidable character once you navigate through the initial leveling phase. Starting with slow staff strikes, it evolves into a dynamic playstyle where you can dash to weaken foes, gather charges, and then unleash devastating energy strikes that ripple through the ground.
Mastering this class has been a journey, and I think I may have discovered yet another new favorite among the roster.

During my time with Path of Exile 2, I found myself drawn to the witch class, a familiar favorite from the original game.
In the sequel, this character begins as an adept summoner, reviving corpses and commanding the undead with finesse. The abilities available allow for strategic gameplay, enabling you to dictate the type of attacks your minions will launch.
One of the standout skills is the unearth gem, which conjures bone spikes from the ground, dealing damage and resurrecting fallen foes as temporary allies. As you progress, you unlock additional skills such as skeletal warrior, skeletal sniper, and skeletal arsonist. However, early on, your spirit resource limits you to selecting just one to begin your journey. I opted for the skeletal arsonist, whose explosive ability can detonate weakened minions, delivering devastating damage to groups of enemies or formidable bosses.
As I advanced, gaining access to skills like bone cage and contagion allowed me to trap foes and infect them, watching as the contagion spread and obliterated anything in its path. Even at lower levels, the thrill of these builds was palpable, and I couldn't help but smile throughout my play sessions as the witch.
Grinding Gear Games teased us with glimpses of more advanced builds, and one particularly impressive sight was the towering skeleton summoned by a sorcerer, which was visually striking.
Path of Exile 2 consistently impresses with its art direction, showcasing elements that are both eerie and reminiscent of heavy metal album covers.
At this moment, the feeling of power progression is incredibly satisfying, leaving me eager for what lies ahead.
Monk Class Experience
My first foray into the monk class was quite an eye-opener.
Initially, the monk's attacks felt slow, but the build-up to more devastating strikes became a thrilling experience.
Once I gathered a few skill gems, the gameplay transformed into something truly enjoyable and powerful.
By the end of my demo, I was using the tempest bell skill gem, which summoned a massive bell on the battlefield.
When paired with elemental ailments, the bell unleashed shockwaves that dealt significant freeze damage to nearby foes, especially with my frozen locus area-of-effect attack.
My favorite combo involved the killing palm and staggering palm skills.
I would dart into battle, execute a staggering palm strike, deploy a frozen locus into a crowd, strike the bell, and then finish off remaining enemies with the killing palm.
What’s great about killing palm is that it generates a power charge, allowing me to stack up to three charges.
With this power, I could unleash falling thunder, creating a massive ripple of destruction across the map.
While it may seem like a complex setup, the satisfaction from executing these moves repeatedly is incredibly rewarding.
This enjoyable cycle seems to permeate every class I've tried.
Although I have my favorites, after experimenting with the sorceress and warrior during a recent event, I believe every class offers its own share of fun.
I find myself smiling as I discover how various skill gem builds complement each other in delightful ways.
Grinding Gear Games has improved the early gameplay experience, ensuring new players have a more enjoyable journey through the beginner areas.
The progression feels particularly satisfying right now.
Additionally, the announcement of couch co-op for players in the same household adds an exciting dimension to the game.
I spent about an hour playing this mode, and it’s an appealing option for those wanting to level up together.
The only minor hiccup was the inventory menu, which can be a bit intrusive during combat, but overall, the experience felt smooth.
While some classes remain unrevealed, Path of Exile 2 continues to impress me with each hands-on session.
The ranger demo even inspired me to create a ranger in the current season of Path of Exile.
I was pleasantly surprised by the monk’s early power and now have a curiosity to explore other classes.
With more pre-release reveals anticipated before launch, I’m eager to dive into the full game.
Based on my experiences over the past months, this is a title you won't want to overlook.
We'll see how it all pans out when Path of Exile 2 enters closed beta later this year.
