These spin-off games might even be better than the main games in the series they came from.
These days, spin-off games are pretty popular in the gaming industry. They let developers be creative by exploring different possible outcomes, or they could leave their beloved IP in the hands of other studios. It might be risky to try to make spin-off titles, but sometimes the chance pays off.
From the popular horror series Resident Evil to the well-known shooter series Borderlands, many games have tried making spin-offs. These games are usually very different from the main series' styles, but the famous name is usually enough to get fans to play them.
Hyrule Warriors
The Legend of Zelda is a set of video games that tell the story of Link, a young Hylian who is always in charge of Hyrule's future when evil forces try to get rid of the Princess Zelda and take power for themselves. Ganondorf, the main bad guy, is usually the enemy, but there have been a few games where this wasn't the case. But Hyrule Warriors is the first Zelda game that is really different from the rest.
Hyrule Warriors is not a high fantasy adventure where players travel the world fighting monsters and finishing dungeons. Instead, it is a fast-paced action-packed hack-and-slash game where players try to kill as many monsters as possible.
Tales from the Borderlands
Telltale Games has made a living by making short games based on popular TV shows and movies, like Batman and The Walking Dead. They have also made games that are based on other games. Tales from the Borderlands is one of these. Telltale took a risk by killing a regular character, even though it was a spin-off game from the main series. The third game would talk about the character's death.
This short game takes place between Borderlands 2 and 3. It tells the story of Rhys, a driven businessman who wants to replace Handsome Jack as the leader of Hyperion. He works with Fiona, a smart con artist, when a shady deal goes wrong and they both lose money.
Resident Evil: Revelations
Many people think that Resident Evil 7 is the series' return to survival horror because of its scary moments, tense hide-and-seek scenes, and suffocating atmosphere. But Revelations was the first game in the series to do this. Even though it was only available on the 3DS at first, Capcom still made a game with a tight atmosphere and creepy monsters, and it was so successful that it was remastered and released on more than one platform.
Revelations takes place between Resident Evil 4 and 5, and Jill Valentine and Chris Redfield are back as the main characters to tell the truth about the T-Abyss virus. When they get on the Queen Zenobia, a ghost ship that seems to have been abandoned, they quickly learn that there are no humans left alive, but plenty of monsters who want to eat the brave BSAA agents.
Silent Hill: Book of Memories
Even though it was called Silent Hill, this PS Vita game was very different from what the series is usually like. Silent Hill is a single-player survival horror game with horrible monsters and bad gameplay. Book of Memories, on the other hand, looks more like an RPG, with a main character that the player creates, monster-filled areas, and a system for leveling up.
The story is mostly about the player-created main character who got the title book of memories for their birthday and it tells the story of their whole life. When the main character sees how their life is going to turn out, they try to change things for the better. But in the dream world, they will go to scary places with different themes. There is a big difference between this and what Silent Hill fans are used to, but that's what makes it fun.
Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance
Metal Gear is a series that is known for putting a lot of emphasis on stealth. Instead of charging at enemies with guns firing, players are told to be patient and sneak past them. But that's exactly how Revengeance plays, with more focus on action and battle, even though it has the same crazy and strange plot as the main series.
Raiden is a cyborg ninja who carries a sword. The game takes place in 2018, four years after the events of Metal Gear Solid 4. In the wake of the Patriots' destruction, Private Military Companies have turned to cutting edge cyborg technology to make an army of tough super fighters.
Mario Kart: Double Dash!!
The Mario series is built on spin-off games. Most of its most popular games are based on the platforming series that made Mario famous in the first place. The Mario Kart games are one of the best Mario-inspired spin-offs. Players control different Nintendo characters and race along series tracks while using things to help or hurt their opponents.
Double Dash was the first game to let two characters work together on the same car. One character drove, while the other focused on using the items. It was a unique idea, which is one reason why Double Dash is still a fan favorite.
Thronebreaker: The Witcher Tales
The Witcher is a popular and well-liked role-playing game series about Geralt of Rivia, the Witcher. The world of Geometry Dash Subzero has so much space and history that there are many more stories that could be told in it, and Thronebreaker is one of them.
This Witcher game doesn't put you in control of Geralt. Instead, you'll be Queen Meve, ruler of Lyria and Rivia, during events that happen before the main series. The world is getting ready for war as Nilfgaard invades Queen Meve's realms after the death of her husband, the King. It's a fun game that adds to the world of The Witcher by adding a new main character and events that haven't been seen in previous games.
Fallout: New Vegas
As the name suggests, Fallout always follows the lives of players who explore a world that has been destroyed by a nuclear war. It's not strange that Fallout has its own series of games, with several numbered games and even an online multiplayer game. New Vegas is the first game in this series. It was made by Obsidian and became one of the most loved and well-known Fallout games.
The story takes place in New Vegas, a made-up version of Las Vegas. The NCR, Caesar's Legion, and Mr. House are the main groups competing for power. In the first scene of the game, Benny shoots the player character in the head because he wants to steal the Platinum Chip they have. The Courier miraculously survives the attack and wakes up. He then goes on a quest for revenge or to forget about what happened.
Persona 5 Strikers
Persona fans will recognize the series for its diverse cast of characters, deep plots, and the personas that users call upon to fight monsters that live in the world but can't be seen by non-users. Fans might not be able to recognize Strikers, though, because it's very different from the main games in the series.
Persona 5 Strikers is a fast-paced hack-and-slash game like Dynasty Warriors. It's not about turn-based fighting or balancing the secret life of a Persona user and a high school student.
